Our Story
In 2016, Susana Cerezo, the devoted mother to Miguel, Alma, Beto, Susie, Janneth, and Andy, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Facing this challenge with extraordinary courage, Susana fought through her treatments and entered remission. Her journey was a testament to her strength and resilience, and she emerged victorious, giving her family more precious time filled with love, joy, and unforgettable moments.
But in 2022, the unimaginable happened. Despite her history with breast cancer, the screenings Susana underwent after her remission were not thorough enough to detect the disease early when it returned. By the time her cancer was discovered, it had already progressed to an advanced stage. The realization came too late—the disease had spread beyond the point where effective treatment was possible.
The news was devastating for her family, who had watched Susana bravely conquer cancer once before. This time, despite all the hope and strength she had shown, the battle was no longer in her favor. The insufficiency of the screenings had robbed Susana and her family of the chance to fight back as they had done before. On December 27th, 2022 heaven gained another angel that day.
Susana was more than just a mother and grandmother; she was the bedrock of her family, the one who always put others first and filled her home with warmth and love. Her bravery in facing cancer was nothing short of inspiring, and even in the face of her final battle, she remained a source of strength for those around her.
Her story is a powerful reminder of the critical importance of adequate and regular screenings for breast cancer. It underscores the tragic consequences of insufficient detection and the urgency of ensuring that no one else has to endure what Susana and her family went through. The Susana Cerezo Breast Cancer Foundation was created in her memory, dedicated to raising awareness about the need for comprehensive screenings, funding access to advanced detection technologies, and supporting families affected by breast cancer. Susana’s legacy lives on through this work, ensuring that her story inspires change and helps others receive the care they need before it’s too late.
